Hello Tony, Thanks for responding to my inquiry. The short, direct route is Samuel B. & Jane (Hood) in England. Their son, Samuel (1806 - 1880) & wife, Mary Ann Tew (1808 - 1877) sailed to New Zealand stayed a short time and then sailed to San Francisco. They had five children. Their son, Henry (1833 - 1909) & wife, Martha B. Sumner (1845 - 1901) lived in Oakland, across the bay from S F, where they had Strawberry fields and possible other fruit. They also lived in Napa which is north across the River (Sacramento, I think). My grandfather Benjamin was born there. There were 10 children in that family - regular farming family, Ha. My grandpa married Ruby A Chadwell and they had 3 children, 2 girls - my mom Helen, her sister, Francis and a son, Leslie who died @21 y/o.
My grandparents lived in Walnut Creek, CA and he had a fruit trees and chickens, while she was the first State Farm Insurance woman in the county, Contra Costa. W C is north and east of Oakland about 20 - 30 miles
My husband Richard & I live in Concord which is a little farther north, but not much.
