It has been hard to track Mary. In May 1881 George Standish required a divorce from her and a decree nisi was granted and the divorce made absolute later in the year. Son James Standish was born 28th August 1881, after the decree nisi was issued ? and there is not easily found any other reference to him, nor marriage or death record. Did he have a name change?
In December 1882, Mary, who had given her name as Mary Eleanor Sarah Reilly is quoted in Newspapers as saying 'I am a married woman, the divorced wife of Mr G. F. Standish'. She was using the surname Rielly (her maiden name) and the man she was supposedly married to was a John Hardy who had recently died. See the inquest of John Hardy New Zealand Herald, 14 December 1882. A woman bearing the name Mary Ann Rielly is married in 1883 (1883/58) to a Samuel Hitchin.
