Alexander (Captain) Davidson was born about 1790.1,2,3 He and Laureston Umphellby were married on 14 June 1844 in Nelson, NZ.1
Arrived Sydney 1829 on the William Stoveld and went into partnership with John BELL and Archibald MOSSMAN to set up a whaling depot and ship repair yard, Mana Island, Porirua. In 1833 took ship back to England to fit out as a whaler. Returned to Sydney 1834 and had his 16 year old nephew Stainton WORKMAN on board as a cabin boy. MAWI. Alexander (Captain) Davidson was a captain of Stoveld in 1829.1 He was an operated first whaling station on Kapiti in 1830.3
