Tuiti (Sweet) (Makitanara) MacDONALD was born on 8 August 1874 in Havelock, MBH, NZL. He and Karaitiana (Makarika) McGREGOR were married about 1889 in NZL. He died on 24 June 1932, at age 57, in Hokio Beach, Levin, MWT, NZL. He was buried in Hokio Beach, Levin, MWT, NZL.

Karaitiana (Makarika) McGREGOR was born on 4 March 1873 in Foxton, MWT, NZL. She and Tuiti (Sweet) (Makitanara) MacDONALD were married about 1889 in NZL. She died on 18 August 1939, at age 66.¹

Thanks for getting back to me, my great grandfather seems to be an elusive man so any shot is a good shot no matter how long it may seem. I have cut and pasted my original message below, just so I know where I am at and what avenues I have gone down. It has been established we are Te Atiawa (Te Waipounamu/ South Island) and that my great grandfather married a Sarah Parkes nee Barke in 1880, their children were:-
Elizabeth Emma Taylor O'Donnell (1860-1924)
John O'Donnell (1866-1934)
Louisa O'Donnell (1869-1902)
Martha Ann Parkes/O'Donnell (1871-1951)
Hugh Augustus Parkes/O'Donnell (1975-1945)

My great great grandfathers name is Tiemi Te Puku aka John McDonnell/MacDonald/MacDonnell. He was born 18 July 1832 in Pelorus Sounds, Marlborough. He died 9 December 1894 in Greytown and was buried there on the 11 December. It has been established that he was a whaler of Waitohi. I am making contact with you as I am wondering if your George Te Oti (Makitanara) MacDonald could possibly be the brother of my John?
I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully you may be able to shed some light on my genealogy :)

I have a PARKES family immigrating from ENG on the Martha Ridgeway arriving Wellington 7 apr 1842.
They were Benjamin and his wife Elizabeth and three children; Mary Ann, Elizabeth and Sarah Jane ( born ENG 1840)
I attach a print out of John McDONALD who was living Wairau Valley area around 1840 - 50's.
Is it possible that this is also your John born 1832 in Pelorous Sounds? Do you have any details on his parents?
I would speculate that John's parents were a whaler and possibly a Maori.
John then married Elizabeth Rea RANGIRIHOA abt 1851 and they had a son George born jan 1852 Wairau Valley. Perhaps John later married Sarah PARKES abt 1860 and they had 6 children??

From the online BDM I note that there is a record for Louisa born 1869 and a James 1867 ( could be one of yours?) and in deaths there is a record of John O'DONNELL died 1894 aged 62. tony.

Hunia Pamoa (Barlow) Tutaki was born about 1872 in Te Hauke, HBY, NZL. He and Pikihuia Ngarongo Tiana Paraone were married on 13 December 1925 in Porangahau, HBY, NZL. He died in 1933 in NZL.

Nicola (Nicholas) Sciasia was born on 13 April 1840 in Trani, Bari, Italy. He and Riria Puaia McGREGOR were married in 1882 in Foxton, MWT, NZL.
