Thomas (de) Berry
M, #17852, b. about 1790
Biography
Thomas (de) Berry was born about 1790.
1 He and
Sarah Palmer were married.
Thomas Berry (buried as de Berry) was my 3rd great grandfather. He is also Fredrick Thomas?s and Thomas Richard?s father. Frederick and Thomas junior worked for the NZ Company ? sailing from London to Wellington and then onto Nelson in the late 1830s (before the first migrant ships arrived). They later brought their families to Nelson and their father Thomas followed as did most of Thomas senior?s children (he was married three times and had 18 children).
There is a very large book published by a family member in 1993 on the approx. 6,000 descendents of Thomas Berry (de Berry) published by Evagean Publishing (see their web site). This includes copies of the letters between early family members (now held by the Nelson museum) about Thomas? senior?s possible link with the French royal family. This was never proven and my theory is that Thomas senior was trying to provide his family with social standing in a new colony.

She added to an interesting life by then marrying her step-son by Richard?s first marriage, John-George RUSH, making his half-siblings his step-children, and their progeny no doubt very confused about who they were. Illegal then, as now!

William Reeve
M, #17872, b. about 1810
Biography
I have a large amount of information on the Morgan family - they arrived in Nelson in 1842 and later that year they went to Massacre Bay, I presume as part of mining
Another family they later married into was William Reeve, who came as a whaler in 1838 and was shipwrecked on the Chatham Islands. After some time there he returned to Wellington and settled at Johnsonville. His son married a Morgan descendant.
The Aldridge family from Port Underwood are also intertwined at several stages and I have a large amount on them if you are collecting that!
Keeps one busy - and fascinated with our history!! Cheers, margaret MN. William Reeve immigrated to to NZ on a whaler in 1838.
