Any information from New Zealand would be wonderful. Thomas Cayley married Mary Anne Price the daughter of a ships captain or officer, they were married Aylesford Kent in 1823. It was stated that Thomas in England was an Oilman. I have a lot of information that I have accumulated over the years. I know that they left for Australia the year following the earthquake in 1855. My husband?s family are descended from Joseph Cherrington Cayley who married Margaret Cox in Sydney in 1861. Joseph died in Goulburn NSW on his way to Melbourne with his family. He died of lung disease. Margaret continued onto Melbourne where her son Thomas had a Bootmaker store in St Kilda. After Thomas no longer could keep going financially and also due to bad health his mother Margaret took over, the store, she was a dressmaker. Thomas Cayley and Catherine Ryan had 5 sons. Thomas Cayley and Mary Ann Price were now nearly sixty and probably lost everything in the earthquake as they were in the Hutt valley, they travelled from New Zealand to the gold fields of Ballarat in Victoria. Thomas worked as a miner in Shivers creek. The rest of the family also came to Victoria and married I have their families if you would like this information it will take a while to put together unless you have access to Ancestry.com. Thomas Cayley and Mary Ann Price died and were buried in the Ballarat Cemetary.
Our family line is Thomas Cayley born 1799 from England, who travelled on the Sailing ship the Birman in 1841 to Wellington, New Zealand.
