age 1810 16y.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 He died in NZ.2
James "MOWRI" CADDELL
in 1810 (others had 1806) James who was about 16 (others have 13) was captured by Maoris on Stewart Island. He was with a sealer's boat crew the Sydney Cove and the rest of the crew were murdered and eaten but his life was spared. He married Tokitoki and lived with the tribe. In 1823 they made two return journeys to Sydney and the last record of James is in 1826 when Thomas SHEPHERD met him. He spent the rest of his life in NZ.

In 1822 was involved with attack on party of sealers off General Gates in Gates Harbour RHS.

MR F. A. HARRINGTON'S FUNERAL. v ; Tub funeral of the late Mr Frederick, A'lonzo Carrington , took place on- Wednesday afternoon, when a large number of town and country residents attended to pay a last mark of respect to one who hadrbeen identified with the first pioneer: days in Taranaki, and waa justly, called "The Father .of the Settlement.", The' interment took place at the family, burial grounds, at Te Henui Cemetery, beside his late ,, wife, who predeceased him* in 1888. The Rer F. G. Eyans, Vicar of St. Mary's, who officiated, also gave an address at the grave. ? The rev. gentle man. referring to the occasion, dwelt upon the decewed's long connection with* the district, and the many public services he had rendered thereto. - Jjlr Evans also rev f erred to the fact that deceased was one of. the links with the past, many of such' links with early settlement having passed' away' since he had .come, to officiate in this district. The casket of polished rimu with silver mountings was covered Œ with wreaths sent by relatives and sympathising friends. j The* surviving children of the late Mr I F,. A. Carrington are: ? Frederick Alonzo Carrington was baptized on 26 July 1808 in Chelmsford, Essex, ENG.1 He was a surveyor, engineer in 1840.1 He immigrated to arrived Wellington 10 dec 1840 on the London and to New Plymouth on the Brougham. on 13 August 1840.1 He emigrated from returned to England 24 jan 1844 in August 1843.1 He immigrated to returned to NZ in January 1857.1

Octavius Carrington, who arrived afc Taranaki with his brother, the late Frederick Carrington, in the barque Brougham, on February 11th, 1841, and assisted in laying out the town of New Plymouth. Augustus Octavius Croker Carrington immigrated to arrived Wellington 25 jan 1841 on the Slain's Castle on 14 September 1840.6 He was a surveyor in 1844.6

John was actually born in Ireland in Droghedra 12 Aug 1822 He was emplyed by the Plymouth Land Co as a surveyor He arrived in New Plymouth on the Brougham 11 feb 1841 with Carrington who was the Main surveyor. When the Plymouth Land Co completed business in New Zealand and went out on his own and purchsed and sold land particluralry in the North. He kept in close contact with his cousin James Hand and indeed when he became Resident Magistrate in the Kaipara James Hand was his boatman. He built the historic Home still in Helensville "Te Makiri " later purchased by James Hand
He also was Land Commissioner for Queen Victoria and purchased lots of land in the Norrth for the Crown He later bceame a native land Court Judge He married late in life to Lucy Turner Reynolds in 21 Jun 1881 in Auckland He died 20 Jun 1899 in Auckland. He had 7 children much later in life In fact he was 70 when his last child was born. DWIL
DWIL has marriage cert. John Rogan was a surveyor in 1840.7,1 He immigrated to ENG to NZ on the London arriving NZ 12/12/1840 on 13 August 1840 ESR has 1842 to Auckland
