I noticed an entry for James Haines Lovell in the NZ pre- 1846 index. I have researched him over many years and he is the subject of a book I self published in 1997.
The reason for contacting you is to amend the record, as James Lovell was born in 1790 in Reading, Berkshire, England. His army record is online. He married in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1826 after his army regiment was sent there. In 1831 he left with the regiment to India, and later to England. He resigned from the army due to injuries sustained during his military service and obtained an appointment as a Barracks Sergeant in 1836. After serving in the Ionian Islands, James and his family returned to England until being sent to Port Macquarie, New South Wales. He was present at the wedding of his daughter Louisa on 6 December 1847 in Sydney and left for Wellington in the same month. Newspaper reports of departing passengers show that they left on the Fanny Fisher barque on 15 December 1847 bound for Port Nicholson, New Zealand. PELO. James Haines Lovell was a Barrack Sgt 65th Regt in 1848.
