16th June: have managed to add a sub site with all of the names using software Ged Site.
Hi, I am searching for information on my 3x Gt Grandfather who was a whaler and died at sea in 1848. His name was William Keane. He either married a lady named Elizabeth Helen Gibson, but unable to find a marriage record for them. They had a son, named William Keane, born in Puhoi in 1848. I believe William Keane Snr was an Irishman. There is rumour that William Keane Jnr is the son of a maori man. (No proof of this). I am wondering if Elizabeth lived with the maoris and the took care of her and the baby. It is also rumoured that she got a moko and smoked a pipe. Later, Elizabeth married John McGinty from Maraetai when William would have been about 12. William jnr married Isabella Melrose. The marriage cert between William and Isabella says ‘King’. They were Roman Catholic. Are you able to shed some more light on William Snr please. Elizabeth came to NZ when she was 4 years old on the Clifford. Thank you.
sorry long delay! Don’t have very much on file except have Elizabeth GIBSON on “Clifford” with parents. Mother Susannah. Do you have mother’s maiden name?
If son William jnr born 1848 wouldn’t be Elizabeth’s since she would have been about 10 or 11 years old? I have Elizabeth GIBSON (age abt 17) marriage to John McGINTY in 1854. (if William jnr born 1848 he couldn’t have been 12 when they married)
I note the marriage between William “KING” and Isabella MELROSE in 1871 (NZBDM)
I do not have any information on William snr. Tony

Looking for information on The Margaret, lost from Wellington 1846. Captain James Martin. Any information on the date of wreck?
sorry long delay …. so many postings are spam. from “Shipwrecks, N Z Disasters” published 1936 …The Schooner Margaret sailed from Kapiti on July 9th 1846 for New Plymouth and was never heard of again.
There was a full south east gale at the time.
I am trying to trace the arrivals in NZ (Greymouth/Westport or Nelson) of the Wiesenhavern (spelt differently sometimes e.g. Weisenhavern or with a ‘z” or an ‘r’ before the ‘v” or with or without the last ‘r”) brothers, Adolph, Carl and Otto – probably from Melbourne (although originally from Munstedt, Hanover, and probably around 1860. I would also be pleased to have other info on them.
hi Helen, sorry 1860 is outside the range of data I have. Suggest googling the ship and maybe you will find a passenger list. Details of ships and passengers from Australia often in the Australian newspapers (try Trove) and for NZ also Papers past. tony

Hi, Hopefully it’s okay to make contact here. I’ve recently been researching my family history. I’m so grateful for the years of dedication and research by the likes of yourself, relatives currently unknown, and my late sister and aunty. I looked for the mother of James William Fox, (bpt 29.05.1836 at the Holy Trinity Church, Clapham, England, arrived in Wellington 19.12.1856 on the “Oliver Lang”, d 30.08.1884 Taita). Sighting the marriage record between Priscilla and James Fox (30.08.1831 St Luke’s, West Norwood, Surrey), I though the handwriting looked like Perry, not Percy as many genealogists have previously recorded. There was a Priscilla Perry born 27.08.1806, baptised 28.09.1806 St Leonard’s, Shoreditch, London, to James Bracey Perry and Jane Elkins. I wonder if this is the mother of James William Fox?
Also looking into the parents of Charles Joseph Cottle, (b 22.02.1838 Swainswick, arrived Wellington 11.06.1841 on the “Catherine Stewart Forbes”), I wondered if his mother, Mary, was born 24.11.1805 in Walcot, Bath, England, to George and Sarah Dimond.
Hi Kathryn, The FOX and COTTLE families are my direct descendants. Contact me direct on teecee237@gmail.com
