MRS. T. J, THOMPSON. Mrs. T. J. Thompson, who died afr Richmond last Thursday, wan one of a Jfast diminishing band of settlers wiia did such splendid Work in the early days of New Zealand. Thompson ivas of mingled Yorkshire and Welsh, descent, being tire oldest daughter of the late Air, Josephus Hargreaves._ As a girl of 13 she emigrated along with her parents and a intuierous family of brothers and sisters ffojii her native town, of Leeds, arriving in Nelson by. this ship Lord Auckland towards the end of iobruarv,- 3842, in tho days when Trafalgar Street was but a fiWvcy line cut through tile fern. After passing through the stirring days of tho_ Waimi massacre, and tlio stressful period that followed, silo married in IS4G, and settled with her htisbinvl, the. late Mr. T. J. Thompson, at their farm of "Headiiigloy," Richmond, which had been her homo over .since* Of her largo family, four died in girlhood, and one, the late Mr. R, ,T. Thompson, formerly assistant- waster at 13ridge Street School, died at- survey work in Ainuri. Th.o surviving sons are:?Mr. H. P. Thompson, farmer, of Moutero; Mr. P.
