An Appeal to the Benevolent Public. THE Widow of the late Thomas Turtley, (who was recently drowned ) being left with four young children, and entirely without the means of support, is induced to make her case known, through this medium, in the anxious hope that some assistance may be afforded to her by the Benevolent, who are ever found ready to come forward with liberality when the circumstance is known (as is at present) to be one of real necessity. Donations will be most thankfully received by Mr. Didsbury, at the School House; Messrs. Williamson and Crummer; Mr Wood?s Hotel, and Mr Keidall, Mechanic?s Bay

Accident in the River.?We regret to record the almost certain loss of Cornelius Ryan, a line young man, (lately the Governor's coxwain [coxswain]), but better known by the name of Harris. On the 3rd instant, he went towards the mouth of the river in a boat, to look (as is believed), for another boat, then missing. The night was stormy; and, as he did not return on the next day, considerable apprehensions were entertained for his safety. The cutter of the Harbour-Master was despatched, but returned without success, as regarded Ryan, or his boat. They, however, discovered another boat, swamped, with the sails set, reefed. She has since been got up by the Harbour-Master and his crew, with considerable exertion, and now lies at the Dock Yard Reserve, in Official Bay. This boat is supposed to have belonged to a man, named Tnrtley [Turtley], who had gone on a trading trip, and it is feared, has perished, as well as poor Ryan.
ESR2 has Arthur not Thomas drowned. Arthur Turtley had person sources.
6 He immigrated to ENG to NZ on the Duke of Roxburgh arriving NZ 8/2/1840 on 5 October 1839.
2,1 He was a Gardener in 1840.
