DEATH OF OLD COLONIST.
mr JOHN BARRIBALL.
Another of the oaily pioneers of New Zealand has passed away, in the person of Mr. John Barriball, who died lad Friday at the age of 76. A native of Cornwall, Mr. Barriball came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Westminster, arriving at Auckland in 1842. His father, the late Mr. Charles Barriball, commenced fanning and dairying in the Epsom district, but in 1859, Mr. John Barriball purchased land at v Waiuku, where he has resided ever since. He served in the Maori war of 1863 and 1864, and at its termination was one of the founders ±? the Waiuku Royal Cavalry Volunteers, a company that won much distinction. He took much interest in the development of the district, and seived on several local bodies. Mr. Barriball was highly respected, and was esteemed for his jovial and kindly disposition. He is survived by two sons, Messrs. A, J. and W. H. Barriball, of Waiuku, and four daughters. Mrs. H. Gaulton, Mrs. E. S. Keane, Mrs. J. Harris, and Mrs, S. T. Rossiter, all of Auckland. There, are 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. The funeral took place on Sunday, the sen-ice being conducted at tis Wesley Church and the Waiuku Cemete? by tho Rev W. J. Griffin. ~
