John Harris Davis was born about 1800 in LON, ENG.1,2 He died on 30 May 1829, at age ~29, in Hokianga, NZ, drowned along with fellow seaman Joseph SHEPHERDON, from Roslyn Castle, buried Mangangungu Mission Cemetery, MI erected by captain D? MMMI.1,2 He was buried in 1829 in Mangungu Mission Cemetery, Hokiamga.1

Maria Grogan was born about 1846 in Russell?, NZ?, died aged 38 maried aged abt 16 BC for Kate has birthplace Sidney, NSW abt 1850.1 She and George Jennings were married on 2 February 1863 in St Patricks Roman Catholic Church, Auckland.2 She and Edwin (Edward) W Warmington were married in 1871 in Hokianga, NZ, place from BC for Kate.3,4,5 She died on 19 November 1885, at age ~39, in Ohauiti, Hokianga, NZ, maybe died BOI?1,6,7 She was buried in November 1885 in Rawene Cemetery, Hokianga.6

parents possibly living Russell 1846, CLENDON census has Mr and Mrs GROGAN, servants (no children) but no other records to date of GROGAN in Northland or Auckland. Probably Catholic so need to check Catholic BDMs.

A George JENNIGS died in a Dunedin Hospital of TB 1869 aged 41.
There are court reports of a Maria JENNINGS in Westport and Nelson 1870 ( drunken behaviour etc) perhaps Maria went back to Auckland from Dunedin via Wesport and Nelson early 1871 and met Edwin there and married him?
Parents possibly Edward and Catherine. Also possibly a brother Edward born feb 1847 in Auckland and married to a McGUIRE 7 jan 1878 in the St Patricks Catholic Church in Auckland.
Probably immigrated on the Commodore Perry which arrived in Auckland 20 sep 1860 from Liverpool via Melbourne.

This family was assisted in their passage to New Zealand by the Vestry of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, East Chinnock and by help given to the family by Lord Portman. Although listed as a Labourer (ag lab) John had been working in a local factory making canvas. They first lived in a nikau whare in the Maitai Valley before moving to Marlborough where work was found on the Adams' estate. They built a cob house which still stands.
