Could be the right Donald but Inverness some distance from Renfrewshire and Donald only 9!
I have a lot of info on Donald, starting from an 1857 advert in the newspaper as a horse trainer. He was really successful, and there's lots in the papers. He married Mary Jane Jarvis from Otahuhu in 1859 and had about 9 kids. He died at 37 Arthur Street, Freemans Bay aged 85 in 1917. Mary Jane died in 1929. I've trawled a lot from the papers? it all makes quite a good story. I could send it to you if you are interested. KMO2
was in Field Lane as a carpenter in the police Census KMO2. Donald Johnstone Taylor was a horse trainer Auckland in 1857.

DEATH OF MR. CHARLES BAILEY.
OLD AUCKLAND RESIDENT.
BORN HERE IN 1846,
The obituary columns to-day contain notices of the death of quite a number of elderly people. Amongst them is Mr. Charles Bailey, who was born in Auckland 77 years ago, and had practically seen the development of this city from a small village on the banks of the Waitemata. His death occurred early this morning at Mr. Bailey's residence, "Muratai," Clifton Road, Takapuna. Mr. Bailey was born in Auckland in 1846. being the son of the late Mr. Arthur Bailey, who came here with Mr. William Ligar, Surveyor-General. At the age of about 15 years Mr. Charles Bailey started to learn the boatbuilding business with Mr. Beddoes. He became foreman of the yard, and, when Mr. Beddoes left for the Islands, took over the business at the age of 19 years. During the Maori war, Mr. Bailey was engaged cutting timber in the Waikato, and that the work was dangerous was shown by the fact that the party was guarded by an escort of soldiers. He was at Rahu at the time the fight at Orakau occurred, and afterwards was present at the interment at Te Awamutu of the British killed in that engagement. Throughout his life Mr. Bailey took a keen interest in aquatic sports. With the late Mr. Charles Dacre he inaugurated the Auckland Anniversary Regatta. Mr. Bailey was also the founder of the Waitemata Rowing Club, and not only built, but presented to that body, the first whaleboat. Mr. Bailey was also a life member of the Trotting Club. ... Mr. Bailey was a noted boatbuilder. The first big vessel he built was the Agnes Donald, to the order of Mr. A. B. Donald, for the Island trade. This was in due course followed by the schooner Fleetwing, for Messrs. J. and D. Oxley. Both these vessels proved very smart sailers. The next vessel was the TJailakumbrs, to the order of a trader in the South Seas. Mr. Bailey was also famous as the builder of the yachts Daphne, Fleetwing, Viking, Erin, and many smaller vessels. Some years ago Mr. Bailey retired from business, which has since been carried on by his son. Deceased is survived by seven sons, four daughters, thirty-eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was baptized on 3 April 1848 in Auckland, NZ.
