2,4 A most distressing case of suicide occurred at the Waikoukou Saw Mill on Monday, 4th inst. , in tho person of Mrs Louisa Warnington, a middle-aged woman, who had been cohabiting with John Casey, a sawyer in the employ of Mr. I!. F. Blalce, for the last nine months. It appears she was misicd during Monday morning, whilst Casey was at work, and immediate search was rnnde for her. Nothing Laving been he.ird of her by Wednesday morning, and being a woman of weak intellect, and who had beeu uuder the medical advice of Dr. Nicholson for some days pievious, Casey proceeded to Kaipara, and lodged mfoi mutton at the Court-house, when Air. Giles, clerk of the Court, immediately deipatched the district constable to Waikoukou. The bush Laving been searched, and no tracks being found, they pioceeded to drag the creek, and shortly found tho body, iibout two o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. 'Ihe lcmains were then lodged in Caseys homo, under the custody of the police. An inquest was held the following day, before Dr. Nicholson, F.B.C.S. By the evidence laid before the jury, there was no doubt as to the cause of death, or deceased's state of mind. The deceased was seen by William Oxx, the cook, on Monday morning, after work had commenced, and both Oxx and Casey gavo evidence that conduced to the belief that deceased was suffeiing for some days past of occasional aberration of mind. Deceased was pregnant, and it is supposed that the fact preyed greatly on her mind, but although ailing she was by no meant suspected of requiring' any one to be constantly watching her. Tho verdict of the jury wa?, "That the deceased Louisa Waruingtou committed suicide in tho wateri of tho Waikoukou Cieek, whilst in a itate of temporary insanity." The funeral took place on Wednesday evening, when a number of her acquaintances followed to the grave. Great thanks should, be given to Mr. Giles, and to the district constable, for the courtesy, energy, aud discretion evinced throughout the affair. PPA. Louisa Arthur immigrated to ENG to Auckland NZ on the Queen of the North arriving 30th july 1862 on 9 April 1862.
