The fishery at Island Bay has been broken up, in consequence of the supposed loss of one of the boat's crew, which went out on the morning of the 6th of June, and have not since been heard of. It is feared all hands have perished. Their names are William Hall, (headsman and owner) William Watchorn, (boatsteerer) and John Gray, Frank Riley, John Leman, Harry Dorsland, Conway Akean, Lewey Lewin, pulling hands. They started on the 6th for Akaroa, and it is supposed that they fastened to a whale, and that the boat was either stove or upset.
Island Bay on Banks Peninsula outside of Akaroa Harbour entrance. William Hall was a Headsman and owner Island Bay Akaroa whaling station in 1845.
