For some time I have been trying to trace my husbands GG Grandmother Sarah Jane Earl. She married Robert Walker in Wellington in 1874. I have just recently discovered that she came to NZ as Sarah Brogden as she had married Joseph Brogden probably in Yorkshire. Joseph died in Wellington 28 August 1852 age 42 according to NZBDM.

"1841 census shows Joseph born abt 1816. However possible 1810 as age 42 at death in 1852. He married Sarah Earl and they were living with Sarah's family in 1841 census. His occupation was Brewer and when he came to N.Z. he almay have initially lived in Nelson and worked as a Brewer. This information is from NZ Gazette entires 1845. If this is the same one he may then have moved to Lower Hutt and worked as a labourer."

I have sent to England for their marriage certificate. I am not really investigating the Brogden family but have this little bit of knowledge which may help you.
