Isabella Barr was born in 1825 in Paisley, SCT, died aged 55 DCert age 20 when married, age 43 when married WATSON.1,2 She and William Hooper were married on 23 April 1844 in Auckland, NZ, see marriage cert. She and Newel (Noel) (GASCOIGNE) (GASCOYNE) (GASCONY) Gascon were married about 1848. She and Frederick Watson were married on 3 November 1869 in All Saints, Auckland, NZ.3,4 She died on 27 March 1880, at age ~55, in West Queen St, Auckland, NZ, cancer of breast 1 year Dcert.5,2
The Isabella Barr that I'm related to is listed on the Duchess of Argyle passenger lists that I've found as being a single woman and age 22 putting her birth date circa 1820 (although we believe she may have been younger). She married a William Hooper in 1844. The parents listed on Isabella's death certificate are Matthew and Mary Barr. We have had DNA testing done through Ancestry but haven't yet been able to establish if the other Barrs on the ship were related to our Isabella. AMHO

Isabella Gascoigne deposed: I am the wife of Newell Gascoigne, a sawyer. Live in Mill's Lane next door to the two prisoners. On the night of Monday, 4th May, I saw the prisoner Lane come out of tho house with the prosecutor, take him up to the end of the lane and come back. Regan then came out of the house, and I saw them counting some money on a rail. It appeared to be silver. L.me produced it. I beard Lane say ' We'll go inside or he may bring the trap?," by which I understood him to mean the police. They both went inside, and I went to bed. I heard Regan ask Lane, "Is thti all you have got." lam quite certain they were the two prisoners. One of them had two black eyes where he had been lighting.
Cross-examined: lam the mother of a family of seven. Have been in the colony since 1842. Came in the Duchess. My maiden name was Barr. Knew a man named Hooper. Was married to him. Hooper is dead for anything I know. He left the colony 18 years ago. lam married to Newell Gascoigne. Decline to state when. I saw the prisoners through the end window of my house. Could not see to the corner of tho the street. My house does not come quite up to tho street. The next house on the left does come up to the street. Saw Conolly next day going iuto Regan's house. Don't recollect him coming into my house. Two sick children kept me up. The fence is a paling fence. The prisoners had a paper, but I could not toil what it was.
