Francis John Hill was born in 1834 in Norfolk? ENG died aged 61.1 He died in 1895, at age ~61, in Auckland, NZ.1
Francis John Hill was a custom's officer.1 My knowledge is far from complete. My mother's, father's father (my great grandfather) was Francis John HILL. He came from Norfolk in England and died, at the age of 61, in 1895 while living in Auckland. His wife, Kathina Magdalena PAHL came to New Zealand leaving Hamburg in Dec 1842 and arriving in Nelson in June 1843. I don't know when Francis John and his family arrived in NZ but it seems most likely to be in the 1840s. He was a customs officer in Auckland and later in Nelson where he met my great grandmother.

I shall file your email, it may well be that I have forebears who came on the Jane Gifford. I believe that on this voyage it arrived in Auckland but that is only from something I heard someone say, not any proper research.

ESPIE.? At Newsteacl, Poverty Bay, from paralysis, on the 4th instant, Mr. Robert Espie, aged 58 He was one of the oldest settlers in Poverty Bay, and was generally respected by all who knew him. His funeral was far more imposing than any that had previously taken place in the district. 'Being a volunteer, the corpse was preceded by his comrades in full uniform, and followed by nearly all the settlers in Turanga. The usual volleys were fired over the grave. Robert Espie immigrated to arrived Poverty Bay. in 1837.2 He was a trader and whaler, Poverty Bay in 1838.1,2 He was a carpenter, Poverty Bay in 1851.3
