OBITUARY MRS T. H. STEADMAN.
INTEREST IN SOCIAL WELFARE. DEATH ON SATURDAY NIGHT, After an illness lasting some considerable time, the death occurred on Saturday night of Mrs Edith Minnie Steadman, wife of Air T, H. Steadman, of Mill Road, Whangarei. Mrs Steadman, who was 70 years of age, died at her home. Mrs Steadman was born in Whangarei, anil was the oldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Mair, two of the earliest settlors of Whangarei. Her birthplace was in the old home in Shorthand Street, where an old oak planted bv her father was recently cut down. She later lived with her parents in Malr Street, and, after her marriage, in Mill Road, whore her death occurred. She spent the whole of her life in the Whangarei district, with the exception of visits to Australia and America,

Mrs Steadman taught 'for a number of years in the Kamo and Whangarei public schools. She always took a groat interest in social welfare, and was a foundation member of the Whangarei brancli of Ihe Young Women?s Christian Association, and also the Plunket Society, being one of the past presidents of the branch. She was also a foundation member of the Whangarei Women?s Club, the Whangarei Tennis Club and the Kensington Croquet Club. For 13 years she acted as organist at Christ Church, Whangarei. Airs Steadman was also Mayoress during the time of her husband?s . term of office as Mayor from 1910 to 1912, and she carried out her duties with much sympathy and attention.

Airs Steadman is survived by her husband, and two daughters and two sons. The daughters are: Airs L. R. Kelson (Whangarei), and Airs F, Voale (Otorohanga). The. sons arc: Air A. AI. Steadman (Whangarei), and Air IT. A. Steadman (Auckland). The eldest son, Air Noel Steadman, who was a lieutenant in the North Auckland Company of the First Auckland Regiment, was killed in the attack on Krithia,. Gallipoli. There are three grandchildren. The funeral was hold privately at Kamo Cemetery this afternoon.
