"I am just discovering my husband Bill's interesting family history. He is of Baker descent, from Russell. William Baker is his Gt Gt Grandfather, married to Amy Hansen, grandchild of Captain Hansen. Your web site clarified a comment his Dad had said but didn't know the details of - that a distant grandparent was one of the first European women born in NZ. It was in fact Amy's oldest sister Hannah Hansen.
There was also some talk that Amy Hansen was part Maori but this doesn't seem possible.
