Theo & Elizabeth are my great-grandparents and were married in 1853 (not 1845, although I've seen this earlier date listed but it is not possible as Elizabeth was only 13 at the time!). The first child of their marriage was born in 1854. I can supply a Marriage Notice from a newspaper if you are interested.

So far Theo hasn't been placed by any documentation in NZ before 1846, although he may have been involved in whaling or sealing that early. He was definitely in NZ in 1848 when Elizabeth conceived a child (Lewis Alfred DANIEL: died 1853) who was born in 1849, but this is 'reading between the lines'. Theo must have been halucinating when he said he was married by Wohlers in 1846 - although I'm wondering if maybe there was an earlier marriage we know nothing of. So on his 'authority' he can be classed as 'in'. There's a mystery here!
Officially, Theo arrived in NZ in 1851 when the "Laura" on which he was travelling to England ran aground off Cape Farewell (more like Cape Hello!). I'm of the opinion that he knew at least William STEVENS and John HOWELL, as they were continually in and out of Sydney, so when he met up with one of them (William STEVENS I think from memory) in Wellington, he was persuaded to stay. I don't think he'd have done as much for a chance-met 'persuader'. Also, if he was in the whaling or sealing business early on, he'd certainly have met them. Theo never did get back to England.
Here's their Marriage Notice

I certainly do have children for Theo & Elizabeth - one of them was my grandfather! I have attached a Group Sheet showing the family. Theo often called himself 'Theophilus Alfred James Brown DANIEL' but the Brown was assumed by him and not in his baptism record. It was his mother's maiden name. PB
