Manawatu Evening Standard 22 February 1916

"The death occurred suddenly in Palmerston yesterday of well-known settler of Rongotea, in the person of Mr James William FOX. Deceased is supposed to have taken some liniment in mistake for cough mixture, and his condition became so grave that his removal to the Palmerston Hospital was ordered. He arrived at the institution, but was beyond medical aid, dying shortly after his admission. The late Mr FOX was a highly esteemed farmer and dealer, and was much respected in Rongotea, where he had lived for a number of years on the well known Ethelhurst property. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs FOX and family in their sad and unexpected bereavement. It is understood that an inquest will take place to-morrow, leaving the hospital at 1.30 o'clock for the Palmerston cemetery."

Do you have any more information about Ina Annie Rubina Strickland nee Fox & her husband Ronald Nigel Dugan Strickland ?? I have been told they lived & died in British Columbia (Brentwood Bay, Vancouver Island, aka Victoria Island, to be more precise). According to my notes Ida was born in 1911 & died on 17 November 1994 (but I am not sure where I got the date of death from) & that she & Ron married in NZ in 1937. I have found on the BC Archives website a reference to the death of a Ronald Strickland at Saanichton on 4 August 1985. I have emailed the Victoria Genealogical Society who advise they have found a death registration for Ronald N.D. Strickland who died in Saanichton (a suburb of Victoria, BC) on 4 August 1985 age 70 , cremated at Royal Oak Burial Park whose database includes the death of Ida A.R. Strickland on 17 November 1994. Both were cremated & ashes scattered. I am not sure whether the ROBP database will tell us anything more but will ask before I pay the search fee requested by the Victoria Genealogical Society. Can you think of anything else to ask them? I understand there were no children but Ian McLeay has advised me that Ron?s family were quite close to Ida. Do you have any knowledge of his family? Are there any in NZ? BobR
