James emigrated to New Zealand aboard the OLIVER LANG leaving 24th September 1856, a month after being discharged from the Land Transport Corps of the Imperial army having fought in the Crimean War. James William Fox was baptized on 29 May 1836 in Holy Trinity Church, Clapham, London.³ He immigrated to ENG to NZ on the Oliver Lang in 1856.⁴

The Premier returned from the South this morning by the Mararoa. Mr. W. A. Flavell, Manager of the Westport Coal Company, returned from Sydney to-day by the Moeraki. Miss May Robertson, youngest daughter of Mr. David Robertson, of the Phoenix Foundry, was married yesterday afternoon to Mr. Geo. Lang Bannatyne, of tho firm of Messrs. Bannatyne and Hunter. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. K. Elliott. Mr. Cook was best man, and Misses H. Robertson and Eva Newson acted as bridesmaids. An old and widely respected resident of Wellington, in the person of Mrs. M. A. Cottle, died at her residence, Cottlevillo-terrace, last week. Deceased was 61 years of age, and was born in Wellington. With the exception of a shoit visit to tho Old Country Mrs. Cottle passed the whole of her life in and around Wellington, and was well known for her kindness to the poor. She was married to Mr. Charles Cottle at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, in 1861. She is survived by her widower, one sister, a grown-up family of eight sons and six daughters, and 42 grandchildren. Mary Ann Gill was baptized on 13 December 1847 in 1st Independent Church Of NZ, Wellington.³
