CENTENNIAL RIBBON.
AUCKLAND WOMAN. 96 YEARS IN NEW ZEALAND. The distinction of being the oldest living person to have been born at Akaroa belongs to Mrs. Amelia Sullivan, who celebrated her ninety-sixth birthday at the home of the Little Sisters of the Poor this week. In recognition of her long residence in New Zealand, a blue Centennial ribbon inscribed in gold was sent her this year with a letter from the Hon. W." E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs. Mrs. Sullivan'e father was Mr. Thomas Kennedy, a well-known farmer in Canterburv. who came out to New Zealand from America in 1838 by a whaler. He was originally from Ireland, and Mrs. Kennedv came from England. Until about fifteen years ago, when she came to reside in Auckland, Mrs. Sullivan lived in Canterbury, and she hae vivid memories of experiences in the early days.
