The wonderful record of having been married for 65 years was achieved today by Mr and Mrs J. H. Davis, of Hastings. Mr Davis, who claims to be the oldest living male resident to have been born of European parents in Hawke's Bay, was 90 years of age last October. A son of the late Willian Davis, a farmer, of Hawke's Bay, he was christened at Waitangi by the late Rev. William Colenso. Mrs Davis is the eldest daughter of the late Major J. C. Clark and is 88 years of age.
MARRIED 65 YEARS
COUPLE AT HASTINGS The remarkable record of having been married 65 years was achieved on Wednesday by a couple in Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davis, who were married in Gisborne on December 7, 1879. Mr Davis claims to be the oldest living male resident to be born Of European parents in Hawke?s Bay. lie celebrated his ninetieth birthday in October last. Mrs. Davis, who was married on her birthday, was 88 years of age on Wednesday. Born at a settlement between Pakovhai and Farndon in 1854. Mr. Davis was the son of the late Mr. William Davis, farmer, of Hawke?s Bay. and stepson of the late Mr. O. Z. Bousfield, at one time Government surveyor at Napier. Mrs. Davis was formerly Miss Maud Gumming Clark, eldest daughter of the late Major ,T. C. Clark. Her mother was a daughter of Mr. Ambrose Street, one time AttorneyGeneral of Canada.

When a young man Mr. Davis was for 15 years supervisor of stock for the late lion. Geo. Randall Johnson. Te Arai station, Gisborne district. Later he became manager of Mr. R. J. Reynolds' property at Toiaga Bay. Mr. and Mrs Davis had 'three sons and two daughters. One son is Mr. Irvine Davis, Gisborne, and another son was killed in France during the last war.

An Ardmore correspondent writes:? very interesting wedding took place on April 24tb, at the residence of Mr. McCullough, J.P., when his eldest daughter. Miss Janet McCullough, was married to Mr. Ewen D. McLennan, of Papakura. The Rev. T. Norrie was the officiating clergyman. The bride, who looked very pretty, was attired in cream, crepon, trimmed with lace and ribbons to match, with a tulle veil and orange blossoms', and carried a lovely bouquet of white chrysanthemums and maiden hair ferns. Tho bridesmaids were her two sisters, Misses ; Agnes and May McCullough, and they Iwore sky blue-trimmed with white lace, Mid also carried bouquets. Messrs. George Warren and A. McLennan were groomsmen. After the wedding ceremony, about sixty guests sat down to an ample wadding breakfast, laid out in the barn, which was ; tastefully decorated for the occasion. The bride was the recipient of a great many useful and handsome wedding presents. In the evening the capacious building was cleared, and a dance was held, with songs at intervals by Miss Bell and Mr. G. Warren.
