OBITUARY
MRS. HARRIETTSEMITH
At the age of 85 the death occurred on Saturday evening at her residence in Heme Bay, of Mrs. Harriette Smith, widow of Captain R. E. Smith. Mrs. Smith was born in Christchurch, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Parkinson, two early New Zealand colonists. Captain and Mrs. Smith, after their marriage in Christchurch, took up their residence in Dunedin, where they remained until they came to Auckland in 1890. Captain Smith, who was a shipping master in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company for nearly 30 years, died in 1940 at the age of 92. Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Mr. Edward Smith. There are two grandchildren.

CEREMONY AT COROMANDEL BRIGHT - McFARLAND A wedding of interest to Coromandel residents took place on June 28, when Miss Ray Lane McFarland, daughter of Mrs McFarland, of Whangapoua, was married to Corporal Harold Lesbert Wo±dward Bright (recently returned from overseas), eldest son of Mrs M. Pickering, of Kennedy's Bay. The bride wore a charming frock of grev crepe de chine, a cream coat with a halo hat to match and a shoulder spray of red hibiscus flowers. After the ceremony, which w±s very quiet, Mrs McFarland received the guests at a reception for relatives and close friends at the Royal Mail Hotel. Among those present was the bridegroom's grandfather. Mr Charles Woodward Hovell the oldest resident of Coromandel. Both the bride and bridegroom are descendants of early New Zealand pioneers, the bridegroom being the great-grandson of Dr John Charles Hovell and the bride the great-great-grand-daughter of Judge Manmg of "Old New Zealand" fame.
