James Symons was born in 1804.1,2 He and Jane Morsehead were married.

Mr. James Morsehead Symons, a very old settler in the Wellington district, died on Thursday last at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. John Whiteman, Upper Hutt. The deceased was a native of Devonshire, and was a son of Mr. James Symons, who arrived in Wellington from the Old Country with his wife and family (four boys and a girl) on 11th June, 1841. The daughter afterwards became the wife of Mr. W. Bromley. Mr. Symons, sen., took up land at Brooklyn, known as Goathurst Farm, and also leased land in the Manawatu from the Maoris. He was drowned while fording the Otaki River, and hia widow became the wife of Mr. J. F. E. Wright, who died in Wellington about twenty years ago. Mr. Symons, sen., grew the first lot of barley in , the Manawatu, on a 35-acre lot. The late Mr. James Mc-rsehead Symons was married at the Registry Office in Wellington in 1859 to Miss Matilda Brown, whose father leased Kapiti Island as a sheep station. Prior to coming to New Zealand Air. Brown had been a Presbyterian minister- in Scotland. For some time before his death he was a member of the Legislative Council. James Symons had person sources.3 He was an Assistant to Surgeon in 1841.1 He immigrated to ENG to NZ on the Catherine Stewart Forbes arriving NZ 24/6/1841 on 5 February 1841 ESR has arriving Auckland 1842 on the Jane Gifford.1,2
