W. Swafford, senior v. John Swafford.?Application for maintenance. This was an application ; by an old man eighty years of age, for an order to compel his son to contribute to his support. He had only received £7 during the last two years from defendant. He lived with his son William, and was very comfortable, but he thought John should thing to assist his brother. He had daughters in Wellington, but they were not in a position to contribute anything. The defendant had promised to support him if he went to live with him, but he had no place fit tor him to live in. The defendant said he was willing to contribute to the support ot his father, but his earnings were not sufficient for him to offer more than 2s 6d per week. ',.,,,. Obituary.?The death is announced of another of New Zealand's early settlers, in the person of Mr William Swafford, who passed away at the Picton Hospital on Saturday morning last, at the age of 84 years. The deceased gentleman arrived in Wellington with the first colonists, and some ten years ago, came to reside in Marlborough with his sons, who had taken up land near Havelock. Owing to increasing infirmity, the late Mr Swafford, some months ago, entered the Picton Hospital, where he remained until his demise. William Swafford immigrated to ENG to NZ on the Catherine Stewart Forbes arriving NZ 24/6/1841 on 5 February 1841.⁴ He was a labourer River Hutt from 1844 to 1858.¹ He was a labourer Porirua Road in 1859.¹
