Henry Wilkinson Southee was born in 1837 in Birchington, Kent, ENG.¹ He and Esther Hunter were married. He and Eliza Cattell were married on 19 April 1858 in Lower Hutt, Wellington.¹ He and Letitia Wiggins were married in 1864. He and Catherine Lyon were married in 1902.¹ He died on 14 June 1928, at age ~91, in Matamata, Waikato.¹

Henry?s baptism date has been transcribed on various websites and trees online as 20 Oct 1837 or 20 Dec
1837. It is not Dec if you look at the D in Daughter in Mary Ann?s baptism above.
It is likely, but not impossible that Henry?s birth would have been registered if he had been born later in 1837,
as registration of all births, deaths and marriages had become official, although not fully compulsory, on 1
July 1837.
Also, it would not be biologically possible for Sophia to have given birth between Oct-Dec 1837 (assuming
Henry was baptised soon after birth) and then again on 30 May 1838 when Robert was born. It would also
be biologically impossible for Henry to have been conceived to be born in August or October 1830 as some
trees indicate, as Sophia would have already been pregnant at the time with William, the eldest son.

Henry Wilkinson married Eliza CATTELL in 1858, and they had one daughter before Eliza died in 1859. Henry?s second marriage was in 1864 to Letitia WIGGINS, and they had two sons. Letitia died in 1901 and the following year Henry married again, this time to Catherine LYON. Catherine died in 1915 and in 1920 Henry married for a fourth time to Esther HARROD nee HUNTER. Henry went to live with one of his sons at Walton, near Matamata, and died there on 14 June 1928.
In Henry?s obituary and his death registration, his age is given as 98 years. This does not fit with his birth year of 1837. He may not have known his true age, or like Mary Ann?s, it has been inflated at some stage. Some online trees have added to this confusion by saying he was born in 1830, to fit with the age in his obituary. Henry was buried in the Feilding Cemetery with his third wife Catherine, but the cemetery records originally had his burial date as 16 June 1937, which added even more confusion.
