Margaret Ross (nee Cooper) aged 30. Innkeeper & Protester. Encouraged by government representatives to go north they settled Epsom, Auckland. Later moved to Onehunga, where Robert Forbes applied for and was granted a bush licence. (sale of liqour)15 dec 1845, see NZ Gazette, He established the New Leith Inn, near the beach, in a large raupo dwelling which had once been used by Ngati Mahuta leader Potatau Te Wherowhero. This was the first licensed accommodation established in Onehunga
Eliza aged 9 (married William George Vernon, a Scotsman who worked as a sawyer at Te Huia. He was killed felling timber in 1850, 5 months after the birth of their son. Eliza rowed his body back to Onehunga. She next married George Kells, a widower with 2 children in 1855. An Irishman from County Louth 1821-, he and his 4 brothers joined the British army and sailed with the 65th of Foot on the Java 1846. They had a son & 5 daughters, one was Isabella Foster Rogers Kells)
John aged 7. Robert Forbes immigrated to arrived Wellington 25 jan 1841 on the Slains Castle in 1840.^1,4 He was an innkeeper Onehunga Auckland. in 1841.¹
