OBITUARY.
MR. JAMES A. GORDON. (By Telegraph.?Press Association.) THAMES, this day. The death is announced of Mr. James Alexander Gordon, aged 75, an old identity on the goldfietds. Born in Mechanics ŒŒ Bay, he served his apprenticeship at . 'shipbuilding under the late Mr. David i Hutchinson, whose daughter he married.' He came to Thames in IS6B. becoming manager of the Good Hope, Moana- : Queen of the South, and also the Waihi Consolidated, Sunbeam at Great Barrier, Auckland at VVhangamata, and Phoenix at Ohui. He held the rank of lieutenant in the Thames Navals, and won numerous shooting trophies, notably the cavalry championship belt of New Zealand. He was a prominent freemason, and a member of Corinthian Lodge. He leaves a widow and two sons, Mr. W. N. Gordon (Thames), and Mr. Victor Gordon (Waitakaruru), and five daughters, Mesdames Murray (Te Aroha). Buchan (Thames), Page (Kohukohu), Misses Rose and. Laurel. Gordon (Thames)." A THAMES DIVORCE CASE.
A divorce case, Gordon v. Gordon, is to be tried after the April civil sittings of tho Supreme Court. The parties to the action are, or have been, resident at the Thames. The petitioner is Drusilla Annie Gordon, and in her petition she states that, on the 22nd of December, 1871, she was married to James Gordon, at the residence of the Rev. . P. H. Cornford, Great North Road, Auckland, her maiden name being Drusilla Annie Bull. After the marriage, and until the Ist April, 1877, she lived and cohabited with her husband at-Mararaara and at the Thames, and they had issue four children. Duriug the period of cohabitation, in March, 1879, she was cruelly treated by her husband, and then being pregnant, was kicked, beaten, and abused by him, and in consequence was made seriously and dangerously ill, and was subsequently prematurely delivered of her child still-born, and at divers other times during their cohabitation she had been assaulted and treated by her husband with great cruelty. From and after and continuously from the Ist April, 1877, the petitioner had been deserted by her husband ; that on the 26th December, 1882, at Tbameß, the said James Gordon did commit adultery with Jane Agnow, a domestic servant, and that on or about the month of March, 1885, he committed adultery with Elizabeth Cook, spini ster, Te Aroha. The prayer of the petition j is as follows -.?"That your Honor will be I pleased to decree that the marriage of your petitioner with the said James Cordon may be dissolved ; that your petitioner may have the custody of the children, and that your petitioner may have such further or other relief in the premises as to your Honor may seem fit." No appearance has been entered on behalf of tho respondent.
PPA Evening Post 15 april 1887 divorce allowed.
