George (THOMAS) Thom was born about 1802 in SCT. He and Maria Paituru Te Rata Kautawhiti were married.

George Thomas at 19 was prosecuted for stealing clothing from a clothesline following a Shipwreck.He gave his name as George Thom at his arrest to protect his Family Name.
He was arraigned at the Ayr Court and Convicted on May 4 1821- the penalty being 7 years in the Penal Colony of Australia, and death if he returned to the UK.Pending transportation he was held in a Brig at Woolrich.
On March29 1822 he boarded the Prison Ship Guilford which sailed for Sydney Austrakia on July 15 1822, and arrived in Sydney April4 1822.
George obtained his Convict Ticket to Leave - Number-27/257 on April 28 1827.
While a Prisoner George the art of Seamanship, and Secured a Mariners job on release, and was engaged as a Shipsmaster trading between Australia and New Zealand, and a regular visitor to Kawhia. LDS.
