Another woman who is buried on a lonely beach is the first wife of Captain Joseph Price. A weatherbeaten stone surround at Ikirangi marks the site of her grave. Close beside her are the remains of some drowned sailors and a young Maori boy whom she befriended when he was in peril. She was obviously a woman of great compassion, for when the boy appealed to her for help, she did not quail at the thought of revenge being taken on her for her actions. He had, in some way, infringed the laws of his tribe and had been marked out for death by the implacable warriors. Mrs Price hid him in an empty treacle barrel until the danger was past and from then on, he became her willing helper. He did not survive for long and the woman toiled in the sun to carry the stones that helped to make the wall that still marks the burial place.
This doesn't seem right. First wife was Kararaina and she came with him to Banks Peninsula but they seperated about 1846 and she married HABERFIELD 1852. She died 1901. Joseph married Jane SCOTT in Sydney 1848.

Interest is often expressed by those who note either of two isolated graves in the Kaikoura district. The first is that of George Allright, which lies near the Amuri Bluff. Two versions are given of the death of this man. The one account says that he came ashore from a ship to make arrangements with Wbatatau, a Maori chief, to establish a whaling station near Omihi. After an argument in which the chief ordered the white man to leave, Allright fell in a fit as he reached his boat and died shortly after. The other version is that he was probably a victim of tuberculosis, dying shortly after he reached New Zealand on a voyage, which he hoped would restore his health.

a number of tales about a French woman who died on Campbell Island between 1810 and 1830. Supposedly descended from Bonnie Prince Charlie. A book "The Lady of the Heather" by Will Lawson is based on the legendary woman on Campbell Island.
PPA Waikato Independent, Volume XLV, Issue 1270, 22 July 1946, Page 6
"The Lady of the Heather," by Will Lawson, is a fascinating New Zealand story. In his book "New Zealand's Lone Island," R. Garrick wrote: Sir James Ross on his ant-Arctic Expedition in 1840 spoke of a mysterious woman seen by the whalers on Campbell Island. They declared they had seen her wearing the Royal Stuart tartan and Glengarry bonnet with a sprig of heather on it." A passenger on the New Zealand Government steamer "Hinemoa" stated that this grand-daughter of Meg Walkendan, lover of Prince Charlie was kidnapped by the seaman Stewart (after whom Stewart Island was named) at the instigation of Jacobites who believed her to be a spy in the pay of England.

The tale of the ?Frenchwoman? is so far-fetched that it is worth recording again as an exercise in Pacific fantasy which had a credulous following. This is the tale of the ?lady of the heather."
The story says that al, though the lady was French by birth she was a Scotswoman by extraction, being the daughter of one Meg Walkinshaw and Bonnie Prince Charlie. This girl, it is known, attracted the attention of the Prince during the memorable festivities which took place at Holyrood both before and after the Stuart victory at Prestonpans in September, 1745 Meg followed Charles to France after the final disaster at Culloden in April of the next year; and on her death she left a daughter who was, nevertheless, regarded by the Jacobites (the Stuart supporters) with deep suspicion Patch Of Heather They believed that she acted as a spy on their movements on behalf of the British Government, and in order to get rid of her, so this extraordinary tale goes, they decided to carry her out of the country. It was supposed to be a man named Stewart (after whom Stewart Island was named) who carried out this task. He is said to have sailed in a whaler from Dundee, kidnapped the woman, and transported her to Stewart Island and then to Campbell Island. Before abandoning her he built her a sod hut on the shores of Perseverance Harbour. Perhaps the only support for this legend is the fact that the remains of a sod hut are still to be found in Camp Cove, with a patch of marble pebbles leading down to the beach. Also there is a tiny patch of heather beside the hut.
