The late Mrs. Prudence Skinner, whoso death occurred yesterday, was the last of a family who w'ero closely connected with the "foundation and advancement of New Plymouth and North Taranaki. She was also the last sur-. vivor of the adult passengers to arrive at Moturoa by the good ship Amelia Thompson, on September 3, 1841. She was the youngest daughter of John A r eale, of ?Aflin,? Parish of Clawton, Devon, who was one of the largest purchasers of land from the Plymouth Company in their 1 ?Settlement of New Plymouth, New Zealand.? The result of his determination to migrate to these shores was that quite a large number of farmers and others from the neighbouring parishes also decided to make the venture. Doth AVclls and Sotferu, in their histories of 'Taranaki toll of this pioneer band leaving Holsworthy, in Devon, and the stir it created in that locality. The story of Mrs, Skinner?s life would be in reality an epitome of the history of New Plymouth, so closely has she been bound up with its foundation and development. With her passes a true representative of the type of honourable, God-tearing pioneer that laid so well the social and economic foundation of this Dominion. In December, 1846, she was married to her late husband. Thomas Kingwell Skinner, another of the pioneers who landed at New Plymouth from the Oriental, on November 7, 1841. Of the original family of live, one daughter and four sons, two survive their mother, Messrs. J. K. and AV. H. Skinner. The funeral will leave her late residence, Powderham Street, for Te Hcnui cemetery, at 20 minutes past 1 pn Sunday. Prudence Veale had person sources.
