OBITUARY.
DEATH OF MR GEORGE DIDSBURY,
(per press association) Wellington, April 21. Mr George Didsbury, Government Printer, died last night, after a short illness, aged 54 years.
The above announcement will be read with regret by a large number in New Plymouth, for Mr George Didsbury had made many friends here during his frequent visits to the place. The deceased gentleman was born at the Bay of Islands about the year 1839, his parents coming to tho colony about the time Governor Hobson arrived to annex New Zealand to the British Empire. We have heard him say he was present in infantile form at the signing of the Treaty of Wailangi. His parents came to Auckland when the seat of Government was established there, and they apprenticed their son to the proprietors of the New Zealander, where ge learnt his trade as a printer. W hen the Government Printing Office was first established in Auckland, about the year 1864, Mr Joseph Wilson was appointed Printer; but on the removal of tho seat of Government to Wellington, that gentleman resigned, and Mr Didsbury succeeded to the office, which position he held up to the time of his death. Mr Didsbury was very much respected; he was of a kindly disposition, and had most amiable qualities; and his death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends. George Didsbury immigrated to to BOI in 1840.
4,1,6 He was a Government Printer in 1870.
