OBITUARY.

-MRS. CAROLINE ELIZABETH

LUDBROOK

\ idespread regret will be felt in ttiis district at the announcement of the death of Mrs. Caroline Elizabeth Ludbrook, which took place at her residence Kaiti, yesterday morning, after a short illness. Mrs. Ludbrook had been suffering from an attack of influenza, and on Sunday she became unconscious, and never regained consciousness.

The late Mrs. Ludbrook was 83 ygars of age and whs a daughter of the late Archdeacon Henry Williams, of the Bay of Islands. She was born in the Bay of Islands, being one of the earliest European children born in New Zealand. Her sister, Mrs. Christopher Davies, mother of Mr. C. P. Davies, of Gisborne, survives her, residing at Napier. Mrs. Davies is now the only surviving child of the late Archdeacon Williams. She came to New Zealand from England when only three years of age, and as. sihe is now in her 96th year must have the distinction of the longest residence of an y European in this Dominion. Mrs. Ludbrook was predeceased by her husband, the late Samuel Bloomfield Ludbrook, many years ago. She leaves a large family to mourn their loss, and to them sympathy will be extended from all parts of the Dominion. The eldest son is Mr. H. F. Ludbrook, sheepfarmer, of Bay of Islands. He was oil his way down to Gisborne when the death of his mother took place. The other memibers of the family, who were, all able to be present at the bedside, are throe sons, Messrs. S. B. Ludbrook, Te Aute; W. W. Ludbrook, sheepfarmer, and E. R. Ludbrook, .dheep- Œ farmer, of the East Coast, and two daughters, Mrs. Ken. Williams and Miss Marion Ludbr-ook.
The deceased was intimately connected with the early history of New Zealand, for her father was a brother of the first Bishop Williams of Waiapu, and! the Williams family is amongst the most respected in New Zealand. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. Service was conducted at Holv Trinity Churdb by Arohdeacon Packe and at the graveside, where there was a Large gathering of the deceased?s connections. The interment took place at the Makaraka Cemetery, next to the grave of the deceased?s brother, the late Mr. Joseph M. Williams. ? possibly two Josephs the first dieing oct 1823 and the second born oct 1823 . note: John HOBBS attended the funeral of one of the KING children later in Nov 1826. JHO p 61.
