Thomas was born about 1814. He passed away about 1850.[1] Also known as James Hapi Ransfield - OR is this a brother??? More information is required.
Trader, Thomas Ransfield arrived into New Zealand in the early 1800's and and operated as a whaler off Kapati Island and as a trader from Otaki. Each whaler within the community had a small property in Otaki, that had been given to them, by the relatives of their female partners. Ransfield became the partner of Erana Rawhinga and they had six (sic - located eleven) children. ( Married 10 years so 6 children would seem about right)
He later took another partner Kawepo Retana and with her had four more children. (this seems unlkely given dates and his death in 1853)
