OBITUARY.
MRS. C. M. NELSON. A LIFE OF BENEVOLENCE. The many friends of Mrs. C. M. Nelson and also the poor, for whom she worked so assiduously, will regret the death of that lady tine morning at her residence, Havel ock Street, in the seventy-third year of her age. Mrs. Nelson was the wife of the late Rev. Canon C. M. Nelson, and during his long incumbency of the parish of St. Paul's she did great work as the vicar's wife. It is therefore but fitting that a memoriam service has been arranged for 11 a.m. to-morrow at Sfc. Paul's Church, after which the funeral will leave for St. Stephen's cemetery, Parnell. Mrs. Nelson was, before her marriage, Miss Georgina Sophia Coates, daughter of the late Mr. James Coates, and was married by the Rev. C. M. Nelson in 1875. Mr. G. Coates, of this city, is a brother of deceased, as is also Mr. James Coates, of London, who was general manager of "the National Bank. Deceased is survived, by two sons, Messrs. Noel and Hobson Nelson, also two daughters, Mesdames Milsom and Tolhurst. In her younger days Mrs. Nelson was a leading contralto singer at St. Paul's Church. She possessed great organising ' and business capacity, as instanced by the first floral fete ever held in New Zealand, which proved such a great success at Ellerslie Racecourse. At the time of her death Mrs. Nelson was president of the Auckland Ladies' Benevolent Society, a position she has held continuously for thirty years. She was also one of the original committee of the Orphan's Home, formerly of Parnell, and now of Papatoctoe, and has ever taken great interest in that institution. Deceaeed was vice-president of the Girls' Friendly Society, and one of the originators of the ' Plunket Society. The amount of work put in by Mrs. Nelson in connection with the Ladies' Benevolent Society was really wonderful. Latterly Mrs. Nelson has been in poor health,"and the end came early this morning.
