OBITUARY.
MRS JOSEPH CRAIG.
Another link in the chain which binds the present generation to the vigorous, pioneer days of Ne.' Zealand's history, was broken when Mis. Joseph Craig, of Epsom, passed, away yesterday, at the ripe age of 79 years. The deceased was bom in London, and, with her parents, arrived at Auckland in 1841, having previously spent a short time in Adelaide. With the exception of a brief interval spent in Nelson, Mrs. Craig lived her life in Auckland. It was in Nelson, in 1856, that she was married to her husband, who died in 1885.
The daughter and wife of pioneers, Mi*. Craig's experiences in the early days were fraught with'- the trials and hardships peculiar to the time. In common with the majority of the early settlers, her husband served in-the militia during the troublous times of the 1 sixties, thereby demanding courage and fortitude on the part of his -wife. Through it all she bore herself bravely as a pioneer's wife should. She was of a benevolent disposition, and throughout her long life, up to the time of her death,' she was famed for her thoughtful acts of kindness to the needy. The deceased was a zealous church worker, and was one of the active workers of the Pitt Street Wesleyan Church until 18 months ago, when the weaknesti of old age prevented b±r from continuing. She leaves a family of six sons and two daughters? Messrs. J. J"T. J., E. A., W. A., H. 0.. and H. E. Craig, and Mrs. Captain Hood and Mrs. A. Rosser?all of whom are resident in Auckland.
