OBITUARY.
MRS. AGNES CARRAN. At tlie age of 84 years Mrs. Agnes Car ran, one of the early pioneers of the Warkworth district, died this morning at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. A. Martin, East Tamaki. Mrs. Carran was born in Auckland, her mother, Mrs. Agnes Mahoney (nee Craig), having been one of the Jane Gifford's passengers to Auckland in 1842. Mrs. Carran was married to Mr. Daniel Carran, of Warkworth, and went to reside on her husband's farm at Streamlands, then known as Dome Valley. On the death of Mr. Carran, in 1019, Mrs. Carran came to Auckland. 'She saw the township of Warkworth grow from its infancy. Slitwas a fine stamip of a liardy pioneer woman, and up till her last illness declared that she had never had a day's illness in her life. In addition to lier knowledge of farming. Mrs. Carran took a keen interest in horticulture and was a well-known competitor at the Warkworth annual flower shows. Mrs. Carran was a relative of the late Mr. J. J. Craig and a sister of Mr. D. Mahoney, of Parnell?New Zealand's pioneer parachutist, who, years ago. under his flying name of Captain Lorraine, made the tragic descent on November 3, 1899, into the sea outside the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour while making an ascent from Lancaster Park. Cliristchurch. Mrs. Carran is survived by the following children: Messrs. D. J. Carran (Streamlands), A. S. Carran (Warkworth), Mesdames A. Martin, C. Pepper and E. Mason (Maungaturoto.)
