The death of the first child to be entered in the Dunedin register occurred recently in the person of Mrs Joseph Wilson. The deceased, who was the daughter of Octavius and Janet Harwood, was born at Kaiwhare, Otakou, on July 25, 1849. The marriage of her father and mother was also the first to be entered in the register. She married Mr Wilson, who was in the pilot service for some 5 - ears, and resided at Taiaroa Heads, but later she removed to Port Chalmers, her husband being engaged in the erection of the buildings on Quarantine Island. After a short residence in Dunedin, Mr and Mrs Wilson went to the Dog Island lighthouse, but they later returned to Dunedin. Mrs Wilson resided in South Dunedin for upwards of thirty years, and she was one of the original members of the South Dunedin Presbyterian Church.She was a staunch worker in the interests of Prohibition, and was highly respected by a large circle of neighbours and friends for her many acts of kindness. Mrs Wilson is survived by a daughter (Mrs M'Donald, of Taiaroa Heads) and two sons (Joseph, of Lower Portobello, and James, of Papatowai).
