We legrat to Lave to locoril that Mr. Frederick Ward Moniman died at his house at Parnelt at ton ?'clock on Friday, Jnly 21, at tho ago of forby-sovon. Although tho ovcnt caused a deep feeling of sonow throughout the oity when it becamo known, it coulil not have taken any ono by snrpiise, for ifc was well known that Mr. Morrira m'sillnoss was of such a nature as almost to preclude any expectation of his io"ovcry. This lingering and hopeless illness ho bore with gieat patience from its commencement about four months ngo till its fatal termination yesterday. No one was better known or moro highly esteemed ainoug tho older colonists, of Auckland than Mr. Meiriraan. Ilis great abilities as a lawyer caused him to bo selected to discharge some of tho most oneious duties in conneotion with his profession, ?while the frankness and honesty of his, nature endeared Win to all who enjoyed the privilego of his acquaintance. Mr. Merriman,' who wan born in Wiltihire, and educated at > indicator, came to Auckland in 1844, during Governor Fitzroy's administration, whon lie com[inonoed praotioo as a solicitor.
