Note an Alexander LYALL was a steward on the Olympus arriving Wellington 20 apr 1841 and he 'deserted' the ship. Captain WHYTE claimed he had stolen a number of articles.(see PPA 5th june 1841).

Five Pounds Reward.
WHEREAS, Alexander Lyall, late steward of the Olympus, having deserted his vessel,
and supposed to have taken several valuable articles belonging to his employer, the above
reward will be paid by the undersigned on his apprehension. Height, about 5ft. 10in., stout
made, had on jacket and trowsers, and left town on Thursday morning with a gun. He is
supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Petoni. John Whyte, master of the Olympus,
On 10th July this appeared from yet another group of passengers:
WHEREAS a paragraph having appeared in the papers' imputing to, or rather
insinuating against Alexander Lyall, late steward of the Olympus, certain acts of
dishonesty, we the undersigned cabin passengers beg to express our conviction of
his honesty, and of the faithful manner in which he discharged his duties as steward.

To Alexander Lyall, late steward of the Olympus.
SIR, ? Having on the day previous to the sailing of the Olympus, asked Captain Whyte
what ground he had for his charge against you, he replied, that he could not say that he
had lost a single article. Mr. Hall having put the same question to him, when the vessel
was sailing out of the harbour, received a similar answer; so that your character is, I
conceive, most satisfactorily relieved from the stigma unjustly attempted to be affixed to it.
