Could be more than one Joseph WRIGHT so not all references below necessarily relate to same person.
Immigration: if purchased land Mangamuka 1831 then must have arrived before then. There is also a marriage record 1834.

Over the years I have corresponded with a lady, Cerise BLAGROVE of Christchurch, who is descended from Joseph WRIGHT of Bay of Islands. She appears to have evidence that there was a Joseph AND a Joseph W WRIGHT in the area.
I quote from her letter to me of 2007:-
My 3rd great-grandfather's name was Joseph WRIGHT. He immigrated to the Bay of Islands in 1840 with my 3rd grt grandmother Ann BLAGROVE and their child Valentine BLAGROVE, they had first settled in Adelaide in 1838. One of the reasons I think they may have chosen NZ is perhaps the presence of another Joseph William WRIGHT and John WRIGHT.
Joseph William WRIGHT immigrated to NZ in 1831 on the "Sir George Murray" he came with "Mr WELLER" probably Joseph WELLER one of the main Whaling families of the day. WELLER returned to Australia a few months later while WRIGHT stayed.
Joseph W WRIGHT was a Blacksmith at Otarihau which was right next to the land that the other Joseph WRIGHT bought land at called Otterigo used mainly in timber trading. My Joseph WRIGHT was a wine merchant by trade but was probably involved in timber trading too.
Joseph WRIGHT had another son by his wife Elizabeth CLARKE, named Henry Clarke WRIGHT who immigrated to Melbourne in 1853 with his family. I know they kept in contact with Joseph WRIGHT in NZ.
In a later letter, Cerise states that Joseph W WRIGHT and John WRIGHT in the Bay of Islands (the Capt?) were the nephews of her Joseph WRIGHT who was born in Middlesex the son of John WRIGHT of Hertfordshire. She then states that (Capt) John WRIGHT was bap 26 Mar 1819 and Joseph W WRIGHT was bap 21 July 1820 in Middlesex sons of John WRIGHT brother of her Joseph WRIGHT.
Hokianga Censuses, 1838, 1846 list Joseph as a sawyer but no wife or family.
On panel to consider a land claim 23 aug 1834 deed 263 see Thomas MITCHELL. Joseph William Wright immigrated to to Hokianga about 1830 probably arrived before 1834 MARKHAM ESR had 1834.
