DEATH OF MR. WM. SMELLIE GRAHAME.
A private cablegram was received yesterday from London by Mr. John S. Grahame, of Awitu, announcing the death of his father, Mr. William Smellie Grahame, at Richmond, Surrey, England, at the ripeageofS2, Laving completed his Slst year last month. The deceased gentleman was one of our earliest and most respected merchants, the farm of " W. S. Grahame" in the early days being a household word (Mr. Wright being his Sidney partner). Mr. Grahame arrived in Sydney from Scotland in 1838, and arrived in the Bay of Islands in 18.19. He returned again to Sydney, and in 1841 came to Auckland, buying the block on which were afterwards erected Grahame's stores and residence, at the fir.'t Government land sale in Auckland The stores fronted the beach, from which was run out Grubame's wharf, where the cargo-boats landed their freight. _ Mr. Grahame carried on an extensive intercolonial trade, the well-known brigs Moa und Maukin and other early colonial traders, sailing under his house flag. In 3852 Mr. Grahame greatly enlarged his warehouses, but they were partly burned down in 1856, although, through the heroic efforts of the men of the 58th Regiment, his residence on the Shortland-street frontage Was saved. .. , , , . In 1858 Mr. Grahame and family left for En-land, and with the exception of a flying visit to the colony, he has resided at Richmond, Surrey, ever since. Up to within the last two years, Mr. Grahame was on the London Board of the National Bank of Now Zealand, but owing to the infirmities of a?e he resided. Mr. Grahame was one of the founders of the old St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Alten Road, and took a deep interest in its welfare. The deceased gentleman was noted for his business integrity, and for his high personal reputation. The tidings of hi. death will be received with feelings of deep regret by all our old colonists who had the pleasure of his acquaintance and friendship. Mr. Grahame's wife predeceased him, dying in ISGB. He leaves a family or three son* and four daughters, all grown up. There are only two members residing in Auckland, namely, the eldest son, Mr. J. 8. Grahame, of Awitu, and the eldest daughter, Mrs. Bassett, wife of Mr. Bassett, of Reuiuera. William Smellie Grahame immigrated to to Auckland in 1841 JGOC has 1840 to Auckland.1,2,3,5 He emigrated from Auckland to England in 1858.5

NEFR
As pretty much all the Hallamore
genealogy back to ca. 1520 is online at various places, perhaps
the best place to refer you to is Wikitrees where you will see
the data which mostly I have placed therein - if any queries
let me know, as you see, there are 4 Thomas Cotton Hallamores,
middle naming after the 1740 marriage at Penryn of John
Hallamore (1718 -> 1804), to Grace Cotton, (1714 -> 1792).
As you see T.C.H. II, (1810 -> 1909), had one surviving son,
born when Sarah was 43, almost a menopausal baby.
Yes Sarah m. (1) 1832, St Agnes, Cornwall, Henry Gill,
who PRESUMABLY died before the 2nd marriage at
Redruth in 1840. Sarah lied on the certificate, saying her
father was Samuel GILL - was this a bigamous marriage -
will we ever know? Anyway she had a legendary bad temper
and so far, have been unable to get any photo of her - her
son was known as the old bastard among other things, and
he only appeared in one photo (daur. Constance 1911
wedding at Ngaruawahia), due to his aversion to having his
photo taken!

Hope this all assists, oh, remember that the surname
HALLAMORE is utterly unique, you had 4 Hallamores
immigrating to N.Z., T.C.H. II in 1842, Samuel (1838 ->
1918) in 1874, to 1899 when he moved to Melbourne,
Michael, (1937 -> 2018), in 1974, settling in Napier,
and his father Jeff, (1903 - 1999), in 1977. Indeed, the
Auckland branch, with 9 daughters and 3 sons,
became, insofar as the surname is concerned, extinct
in 2007 when Thomas Emmet Hallamore died childless
at the age of 94!

The pirate 3 generations discovered in 2005 by way of
1683 New York City piracy trial confirmed the legend
in the family of pirates (plural), indeed, there are 6 that
I know of, ca. 1654 to 1718 in terms of unconditional
pirate amnesty of 1717, more of that including the trial if
you wish, please advise!
