When the war terminated in 1865, Mr. Westney took up land at Te Awamutu, and joining the local cavalry, did patrol and outpost duty until the pacification of the district was achieved. For the next 20 years lie was a settler on the border country in the Waikato, then in 1885 he became a partner in the timber milling company of Ellis and Burnand. Subsequently Mr. Westney, with the Messrs. Goodfellow, took up the Woodlands Estate of 2200 acres at Opotiki and served on the local Borough Council. Mr. Westney retired in 1907 and had since lived at Epsom. He played bowls until about three years ago, being a member of the Onehunga Club and of the Veteran Bowlers' Association. He married Miss Sarah Rutherford, who died in 1923. There were no children. Stephen Nicholas Westney was baptized on 4 January 1846 in Wesleyan Chapel, Auckland.
