William Swainson (1789-1855) was a naturalist and artist who after his first wife, Mary Parkes, died, remarried Ann Grasby.
In 1840 they emigrated to New Zealand on the barque ?Jane? with his four eldest children.
He purchased 1100 acres in the Hutt Valley from the New Zealand Company. William Swainson emigrated from ENG to NZ on the Jane arriving NZ 24/5/1841 on 28 November 1840. He was in Attorney General in 1842.4,5,1
