The death is announced of an old identity in the person of Mr George Banks, sen., of Lake Road, Devonport, ab the ripe age of 71 years. Deceased waa brought up at the Bay of Islands, and resided in that locality in the days ot the native disturbance. He had a chequered career, and twice he visited England, while he also resided in America for a time. Deceased leaves behind him a widow, an unmarried daughter, and son (Mr George Banks, builder, of Devonport). The remains of deceased were interred at O'Neill's Point Cemetery bhis afternoon. George Banks immigrated to Sydney to BOI on the Harlequin in 1836 ESR has 1836 JGOC has 1836.

1,2 Samuel George Kennedy Laurie arrived from Perth Scotland around this time. Never been able to find the ship he came on but I have a copy of the second child Archibald James Lowrie birth cert.b.1849. His first child born about 1847, but no record.
He married a Maori woman Mere Tipona but cannot find a marriage record.
His Laurie name was changed to Lowrie almost straight away and we suspect it was his pronunciation with a heavy Scottish accent. The family lived in Onehunga - Big Muddy Creek Manukau Heads. PHO.

1 Josiah was the owner of the cutter "Lively" and travelled as a passenger in the Lively from Sydney to Nelson then Wellington and back to Nelson where Josiah almost drowned. HST
settled Kawhia but also Mokau and traded along the coast in the Lively. Later lived Onehunga, Auckland.
Extensive notes on Josiah prepared by HST. Josiah (Captain) Hopkins immigrated to Sydney to Wellington (via Nelson) on the Lively arriving feb 1844 on 12 January 1844.
